Ukrainian officials reported that Russian attacks on Monday and Tuesday killed dozens of Ukrainian civilians, making them among the deadliest days in many months. A 5-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were among the casualties. These attacks coincided with a crucial NATO meeting in the Netherlands where Ukraine’s allies were gathering.
As reported by CNN, on Tuesday, a Russian ballistic missile strike in Dnipro, southeastern Ukraine’s largest city, killed 15 people. The mayor, Borys Filatov, described the damage as unprecedented, with nearly 50 buildings, including schools, medical facilities, and residential buildings, significantly impacted. He noted that over 2,000 windows were shattered and that ambulances struggled to keep up with the high number of victims. Over 170 people were injured, with about 100 still hospitalized as of Tuesday evening. A passenger train with approximately 500 people on board was also damaged.
Additionally, nine people were killed in a strike on a Kyiv apartment building on Monday. At least two dozen more civilians died in strikes across other regions, including Sumy, Kherson, Donetsk, and Odesa.
