The Trump administration has restarted some weapons shipments to Ukraine, including 155mm munitions and GMLRS rockets, a week after a Pentagon-initiated pause. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had halted some deliveries to assess stockpiles, a move that reportedly surprised the White House.

As reported by AP White House official denied a “pause,” calling it a review, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell had previously confirmed a halt on certain weapons like Patriot missiles and Hellfire missiles, which caught both Ukrainian officials and U.S. lawmakers off guard.
President Trump confirmed that the U.S. would continue sending defensive weapons to Ukraine, stating his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions and the need to provide support. He has also expressed private annoyance with the Pentagon for announcing the initial pause without proper White House coordination, though the Pentagon stated the move was coordinated. This resumption comes amid escalating Russian air attacks on Ukraine. The 155mm artillery rounds, crucial for ground forces, have been a significant part of the over $67 billion in U.S. military aid to Ukraine since February 2022.
The U.S. has provided more than 3 million 155 mm rounds to Ukraine since Russia invaded its neighbor in February 2022. It has sent more than $67 billion in overall weapons and military assistance to Ukraine in that period.
