Russia launched hundreds of attack drones and over two dozen cruise missiles at Ukraine overnight, resulting in at least two civilian deaths in Chernivtsi. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended his condolences, noting that approximately 20 more people were injured. The widespread assault targeted areas from Kharkiv and Sumy in the east to Lviv in the west.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reported that Russia fired 597 attack drones and 26 cruise missiles. Ukrainian defenses intercepted 319 drones and 25 missiles, while another 258 drones were neutralized by electronic warfare. Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed its “group strike” hit Ukrainian defense industry targets and a military airfield.

These nighttime attacks have escalated recently, with Ukraine reporting record numbers of drones and missiles used by Moscow. Zelenskyy urged swift action, calling for stricter sanctions on countries aiding Russia’s drone production or purchasing Russian oil, and requesting more air-defense systems. “This war can only be stopped through strength,” he stated, seeking concrete actions from partners.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal added that Western Ukraine bore the brunt of the drone strikes, emphasizing that the attacks show Russia’s continued aggression.
